Volkswagen Wants Autonomous Robots to Charge Your EV in the Future

Volkswagen has kicked off 2020 with an insight into the future of electric vehicles with the unveiling of the “Battery Wagon,” an autonomous robot that recharges electric vehicles.

The futuristic concept render shows the possibilities of how to overcome the hurdles faced with owning and charging an EV. As Volkswagen continues to progress into the market of electrified cars, its new idea showcases how autonomous robots could be used in parking lots and city spaces to find cars that need charging, and approaching them with its mobile charging pack.

Once the robot has plugged in the 25 kWh battery source, it wanders off to find other cars that need recharging. It does so with the help of cameras, sensors and lasers that it calls upon to get its way around complex parking layouts, and is capable of carrying multiple mobile charging packs at once.

For now, the “Battery Wagon” and its accompanying autonomous robot is a “visionary” prototype, according to Volkswagen. Take a look at how it’s aimed to work above.
