Mr. Bailey and Adidas Create Biodegradable Shoe Box From Mushrooms For OZLUCENT

We've discussed how mushrooms are influencing a wave of psychedelic-inspired packaging. Yet, more than just design, mushrooms are impacting the structure of the packaging itself.

Adidas and streetwear designer Daniel Bailey, also known as Mr. Bailey, recently collaborated on a pair of shoes dubbed OZLUCENT, but it's the box and packaging design garnering attention.

The box was created with the assistance of research and development studio Black Ink Projects. UK-based Magical Mushroom Company supplied the biodegradable mushroom material, intending to replace polystyrene. In addition to the box that can decompose within around 45 days, the interior bag gets made from sugar cane and cellulose materials.

When the box is kept intact and dry, it can last up to 30 years for secure shoe storage. The shoes themselves are a concept inspired by the lifecycle of the Aurelia Aurita, better known as the 'moon jellyfish.' The sneaker thoughtfully bridges the gap between the aquatic inspiration and Adidas' contemporary footwear.
