Intro to Digital Sketching for Tablets & iPads

If you are not familiar with sketching on an iPad or on a tablet…

  • You need to familiarize yourself with a digital sketching medium in a simple way.

  • You want to reinforce (or learn from the start) the basics of sketching, construction, shading, light and shadows. So you can quickly move into sketching and rendering real products.

  • You don't know how to translate simple volumes into a more complex digital rendering.

But you want to progress from understanding basic volumes to advanced digital sketching

  • You want to learn how to sketch on a tablet or on an iPad.

  • You want to understand how to shade volumes easily, so that you can start combining more complex shapes and create more advanced renderings on your own.

  • You want to be guided through the necessary steps to sketch digitally and become familiar with the tools and programs you are using.

  • You want to reinforce (or learn from scratch) a digital sketching workflow, so you can be quicker and more efficient when it comes to developing your concepts.

What you'll learn:

When you start sketching digitally, you are learning how to draw again (or for the first time!) with different tools. This course will introduce you to the basics of digital sketching and guide you through the process of completing a product design sketch and render with an entirely digital workflow.

  • Basic sketching drills will teach you the foundations of design drawing

  • 1 and 2 point perspective

  • Learn how to construct, shade and place a shadow on all basic shapes in perspective

  • Get familiar with your drawing tablet

  • Use underlays to work efficiently

  • Get familiar with the program of your choice (Sketchbook Pro, Photoshop, etc.)

  • Define brush settings that work best for you

If you have little to no experience sketching digitally this class will guide you through the necessary steps to become familiar with the tools and programs you are using.

If you have experience, this is a great way to go back and reinforce the basics and learn a new perspective on the digital sketching workflow.
