Up until this year, the Stan Smith has remained fundamentally unchanged for over half a century. In January 2021, adidas Originals made the announcement that the brand would usher in a new era for the Stan Smith, an era that’s focused on helping to End Plastic Waste. To celebrate this historic moment in the brand’s journey towards more sustainability, adidas Originals is introducing three unique iterations of the sneaker by launching the Stan Smith, Forever campaign.
With these new sustainable models, the external look of the Stan Smith will remain the same, but its composition will become an experimental canvas for adidas to explore new sustainability initiatives and solutions. The first two sneakers in this drop feature a PRIMEGREEN upper, a series of high-performance recycled materials created with 50% recycled content. The new PRIMEGREEN uppers sit on top of white recycled outsoles. The sneaker features printed planet Earth-inspired graphics, a white tab heal and an ivory tongue graphic. The other sneaker in this drop features embossed planet Earth-inspired graphics, gold eyelets and the Stan Smith’s signature green heel tabs.
The third sneaker in the collection retains the most classic exterior look with the addition of planet Earth-inspired embroidery throughout. Composed of a white recycled PRIMEGREEN upper, this Stan Smith iteration is complemented by a quintessential green heel tab and a coordinating white recycled rubber outsole. To fully bring the focus onto sustainability with this collection, each of the pairs comes packaged in the classic adidas Original blue box, which has also been updated to be composed of more than 90% recycled paper.
By committing one of adidas’ longest-standing and most successful silhouettes to creating a more sustainable future, the launch of the Stan Smith, Forever marks an exciting beginning for a new environmentally friendly era of the shoe.
